Feature in focus: Non-exclusive versus exclusive license

When composing a story, you get to decide whether or not you would like to set your material as non-exclusive or exclusive pricing. In today’s blog post we will explain all you need to know about the two options.

A non-exclusive license
This option means that media will pay you a one-off fee for your material and can use it however much they would like.

An exclusive license
This option means that only one media per country can buy your story. You set the price yourself.

Which one to choose
We often recommend going with the non-exclusive option. It is the most commonly used option - both for Byrd photographers but also among media buyers. Therefore, if you want to increase your chances of selling your material to the media - choose non-exclusive price option next time you set a newsworthy story to the world.

To sum it up
Photo rights can be a jungle sometimes and so is setting the right price - we know that. The non-exclusive package makes it fast and easy for you to sell content. The exclusive option allows more freedom for you to determine the price and distribution. So at the end of the day, you as a Byrd photographer should pick whatever your heart desires!
